• Share your route – Send a trusted person your planned route and estimated return time. Sharing your WhatsApp location works great.
• Fully charge your phone – And bring a small power bank. Nothing is more annoying than a dead battery on the mountain.
• Check the weather – Check the mountain weather app again in the morning. In the Alps, the weather can change completely in 30 minutes.

1. Partnach Gorge (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) – Easy

The Partnach Gorge is a natural spectacle you must experience at least once. Roaring waterfalls, narrow rock faces, and a well-secured path make the tour perfect even for hiking beginners. Your dog must be on a leash – the path is sometimes narrow – but most four-legged friends love the water adventure as much as you do. Tip: Start early in the morning, then you'll have the gorge almost to yourself.

2. Schrecksee (Allgäu) – Moderate

Schrecksee is considered one of Germany's most beautiful mountain lakes – and rightly so. At an altitude of 1,813 meters, this turquoise-green lake is nestled in a mountain backdrop that will leave you speechless. The ascent is long (approx. 800 meters in elevation), but technically straightforward. A dream for fit dogs – there's plenty of space to run around and cool off at the top.

3. Eibsee Circular Trail (Zugspitz Region) – Easy

Turquoise-blue water against the backdrop of the Zugspitze – Lake Eibsee looks like a mix of Canada and the Caribbean. 🌊 The 7 km circular trail is flat, wide, and perfect for relaxed walks with your dog. At several points, you can access the water and let your four-legged friend cool off. Absolutely Instagram-worthy and still relaxing.

4. Taubenstein (Spitzingsee) – Moderate

From Spitzingsee, the trail leads over lush alpine meadows up to Taubenstein. The route offers fantastic panoramic views of the Schliersee mountains and is wonderfully quiet. Your dog can often run freely on the alpine meadows (be careful with grazing livestock!). Once at the top, a 360-degree panorama rewards you, making every drop of sweat worthwhile.

5. Staffelsee Circuit (Upper Bavaria) – Easy

Flat, relaxed, and with many swimming opportunities – the circuit around Lake Staffelsee near Murnau is perfect for hot summer days. The approximately 20 km long route leads through meadows, forests, and small villages. Your dog can go into the water at several spots, and you can join right in. 6. Breitachklamm (Oberstdorf) – Easy

The deepest rock gorge in Central Europe is a true experience. The roaring water, moss-covered rock faces, and diffused light create an almost mystical atmosphere. The gorge is dog-friendly, as long as your four-legged friend stays on a leash. The paths are well-maintained and passable even in light rain – the atmosphere is even more intense then.

7. Riessersee (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) – Easy

Short, sweet, and beautiful – the loop around Lake Riessersee is perfect for beginners or as a relaxed afternoon stroll. The lake is picturesquely nestled between mountains, the path is well-maintained, and your dog can splash in the lake. Ideal if you want to try solo hiking on a small scale first.

Packing list: What you and your dog need

For you:

• Sturdy hiking boots (ankle-high for moderate tours)
• Rain jacket – even if it's sunny
• Enough water (at least 1.5 liters) and snacks
• Sunscreen and sunglasses
• Power bank for your phone
• First-aid kit (small is sufficient)
