Oceanmata at a glance — the most important facts, continuously updated.

Who we are

  • Founded: 2019 in Augsburg by Dominik Karl, after a trip to Bali.
  • Company: Oceanmata GmbH, Augsburg (HRB 35288, Local Court Augsburg).
  • Mission: For every product sold, our own clean-up team in Bali collects 1 kilogram of plastic from the ocean and coastal regions.

What makes an Oceanmata case sustainable?

  • Material: Biodegradable plant-based plastic with 77% PBAT content — industrially compostable (standard: at least 90% degradation in 6 months).
  • Production: Injection molding by a TÜV Rheinland-certified manufacturer.
  • 1 kg mechanism: Each case sold finances the recovery of 1 kg of ocean plastic by our team in Medewi, Bali — documented and with our own team, not through anonymous certificates.

CO₂ balance

The manufacturing footprint of a case is around 0.24 kg CO₂e (cradle-to-customer). The kilogram of ocean plastic recovered per case statistically avoids approximately 2.7 kg CO₂e — net, each case is therefore statistically climate-positive (approx. −2.5 kg CO₂e). This balance is achieved through actual plastic recovery, not through purchased CO₂ certificates. (Source: CO₂ data sheet Oceanmata Bio-Phone Case, February 2026.)

The manufacturing footprint of an Oceanmata case is around 0,24 kg CO₂e (cradle-to-customer). The kilogram of ocean plastic recovered per case offsets an estimated 2,7 kg CO₂e — making every case net climate-positive on balance (approx. -2,5 kg CO₂e). This balance comes from real plastic recovery, not from purchased CO₂ certificates.
